Food Quirks 2.0: A Breakfast Tale

Overnight Oats: 1/3 cup rolled oats, 1/3 cup vanilla soy milk, 1/3 cup + 1 spoonful 2% Greek Yogurt, 1/2 TBS chia seeds, 1/2 of a banana, cinnamon. Topped with blackberries, vanilla granola, almonds, honey and coconut butter.

A while ago I posted some of my food quirks. While consuming my luscious (yes, luscious!) breakfast today, I started to think about how many of my “food quirks” revolved around breakfast. I needed to update my list:

  1. EVERYTHING tastes better when served in a fun dish. Breakfast is so much more satisfying when you are eating out of anĀ  oversize tea cup or a wine glass.
  2. I will never be able to eat hot oatmeal in the summer, unless it is unreasonably cold out.
  3. Cereal and milk for breakfast doesn’t do it for me. I have 4 boxes and they are usually consumed for snacks or as toppings for my morning oatmeal.
  4. I buy oatmeal in bulk.
  5. I also buy Chobani Plain Greek Yogurt in bulk at BJ’s Wholesale Club. They only sell 0% plain in the jumbo size, so from time to time splurge on Fage 2% Greek Yogurt at my local grocery store.
  6. I use soy milk because I can’t stomach regular milk. I love all forms of dairy, however; I was lactose intolerant as a child and plain milk still makes me gag.
  7. I use 1/2 of a banana in my oats, and usually eat the other 1/2 BEFORE breakfast.
  8. Breakfast must always have: Carbs, protein, fruit and a healthy fat.
  9. Texture is important to me. If I have creamy overnight oats I need an element of crunchy.
  10. I almost always have a cup of coffee post-breakfast at work.

There you have it! And that is a short list.

Quirky Girl,

Nora

  1. I love that list! I have a lot of the same quirks as you. Especially about needing something crunchy on top of creamy oatmeal! And eating out of fun dishes really DOES make it taste better. ;)

I must have a banana in my breakfast, in some form. Also I use almond milk for my oatmeal, even though I can handle regular dairy just fine. And I can’t just limit myself to one type of berry for my breakfast – if I have an assortment of berries in my fridge, you can bet that they’re ALL going in my bowl.

I’m with you on the coffee!

  3. I love your food quirks!! I know I have weird quirks, but they’re always hard to think of because they’re not as random to me as they are to others, haha. I must have something crunchy on top of creamy overnighters too, though – but am not as picky about it when it comes to hot oats. Probably because the heat would make whatever it is soft, anyway.
Whenever I’m adding fruit or something to a bowl – I end up eating the last piece in my hand, I can never let it just fall into the bowl, haha.
