I wish I could take credit for making dinner tonight because it was beautiful and delicious. After my refrigerator incident last night I was left with two dinner options: PB&J with Salad or Really Plain Pasta. Neither sounded appealing. On my way home from work I stopped at my grocery for an emergency dinner run. This meal dinner saved my stomach, spirit and wallet. Would you believe this only cost me $6!!?!?
Grilled Jerk Chicken Breast. Jicama, Asparagus, Red Pepper and Corn Salad. Sweet Veggie Slaw. Hermann J. Wiemer Riesling.
I have a crush on the Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard. This wine was the perfect temperature (kudos to my fridge for cooling!), crisp and refreshing. It went nicely with the spice in the Jerk Chicken. It also cooled me down because my apartment temperature is bridging a humid 90-degrees.
I wanted something cold and chocolaty for dessert. Shockingly, I was not in the ice cream mood. It seemed too heavy for this hot night. I never thought I would see the day where I was craving a fudgecicle over ice cream. I found these Jala Bars while I was at the grocery store and figured since there were only 4 in a box, I would pick them up. My freezer is bound to last at least 4 days…right?
Verdict: Amazing! Lots of chocolate flavor and they are a decent size. Plus, they are all natural, pack 4g of protein and have probiotic qualities. If you are craving ice cream I wouldn’t use these as a substitute, however; if you are sweating bullets and craving cold chocolate I highly recommend them.
Move Count Down: T-minus 19 days.
And you better believe I have a list of things to make in my new place!

What do you do for a “cook’s night off”?
That’s such a good deal on dinner! And it looks way better than some microwaveable frozen meal! Whenever I’m too lazy to cook I like to pick up some sushi from my favourite Japanese restaurant.
Those ice cream bars look so good. I love having those on hand for hot summer days.
When I’m not in the mood to cook, I’ll eat breakfast for dinner, or make a big salad with whatever’s leftover in the fridge or cabinet. I did that the other day, using up leftover cheese, veggies, beans, nuts, and a few other odds and ends. Plus, we always keep extra bread in the freezer, so I defrosted a roll as well.
Those Wegman’s $6 meals are great! My favorite is the nut encrusted tilapia with mango salsa.
