Soul Crushing

Dinner tonight was supposed to include chicken. Unfortunately, I came home to an unexpected disaster.Ginger Rice with Cilantro. Veggies Marinated in an Orange-Sesame Sauce and topped with Cashews. And a hefty, NECESSARY, glass of wine.  I photographed dinner on my kitchen rug that is drying out on the windowsill because…..My refrigerator decided to defrost itself while I was at work.

I spent a long time mopping up the water with my bath towel, smelling to see if things were “okay”, and sadly buried a few wonderful items in my trash can. I feel so defeated.

I kept my nut butters, jams and a few other things assuming that they probably didn’t spoil. All of the yogurt, milk, eggs and my chicken breast had to go. I was not willing to risk eating those items.

Wallowing and still hungry, I had the last 3 Supercharge Me Cookies from my freezer defrosting ice box and a handful of lukewarm blueberries. No pictures because my soul was crushed. I probably didn’t need all three of the cookies but I was craving something cold. It’s 90 degrees in my apartment and humid. I am currently dripping in sweat.

Hot Mess,

Nora

Gosh, so sorry you have to deal with this. It is not only soul crushing, but a big nuisance.
On the bright side, you dinner still looks fantastic!

Bless your heart…this is just one big mess! I know how hard it can be to deal with something like this (especially when you love food as much as we do!). We came home after our vacation to a completely defrosted fridge and a ton of spoiled food. It is no fun, and you have been dealing with it for weeks. I must say that you deserve a new fridge, a glass of wine and a long, warm bath!

  5. …sooo, are you counting down the days until move-out? So sorry with all you’ve had to deal with lately – I don’t know I would have handled myself calmly enough to throw that gorgeous dinner together! I bet your nut butters and jams are fine since they’re a bit less sensitive to temp. change. Regardless – I know how painful it is to throw away food! You definitely deserved a good-sized glass of wine tonight!
