Food Quirks

After an interesting day of food yesterday, today was back to the same-old-same-old. Breakfast was a creamy, scrumptious bowl of overnight oatmeal.

Overnight: 1/2 cup raw oatmeal, cinnamon, vanilla extract, 1/2 chopped banana, 1/2 TBS chia seeds, 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk.

Morning: ~1/3 cup Chobani Plain Greek Yogurt, handful of blueberries raspberries and sunflower seed butter.

Same-Old Lunch:Still using up some leftovers I made a big hummus-y salad.

(Truth be told: I packed my lunch before making dinner last night. The only reason for this salad is because I wanted to snack on the veggies haha.)

Salad: Spinach, mixed greens, sprouts, 1 big carrot, cherry tomatoes, celery, cauliflower (yes I like it raw), leftover chicken breast and 2 large spoonfuls of hummus.
Sides: Pecan Cinnamon Raisin Sourdough, Apple.

Making variations of the same thing for breakfast/lunch every day,  I have noticed that I have some food quirks. Among other things here are a few:

Food Quirks

  • I prefer sunflower seed butter in cold oatmeal and think it is just ‘okay’ in hot. I think it taste the BEST with raw veggies (carrot, red bell pepper).
  • Whenever I use hummus as a salad topper I almost ALWAYS put it on a bed of sprouts to spread it around and maximize my hummus per bite ratio.
  • I need to have some carbohydrate with my massive salad. Crackers/Blue Corn Chips are preferable for crunchy crumbling purposes, but NOTHING BEATS YUMMY BREAD!
  • I almost always munch on raw veggies while I’m cooking/assembling meals.
  • I eat a banana and an apple every day.

Creature of Habit,

Nora

    Loved hearing your food quirks…
    1. I eat two apples everyday
    2. I like to divide my crackers into groups of 4′s
    3. I eat a larabar every afternoon
    4. I like my cheese sandwiches toasted and melted…never cold!

I’m the SAME way with cheese sandwiches!! And most of the time, always have to toast my bread! It just makes it yummier and comforting! I eat a bar of somes sort at 3:30/4pm every day. Usually a larabar :)

  2. [...] have been having INSANE chocolate cravings post lunch. Another food quirk. To get me through the afternoon hours I snacked on a chocolate brownie.Hi. My name is Nora. I am a [...]

  3. I love your food quirks – especially because, aside from the one about apples and sprouts (mainly because i have a texture thing against sprouts) I agree with each one. I used to always eat a carrot while making dinner, though not every time anymore. Love good bread with salad. And yes to the sunflower seed butter on overnight oats. I actually don’t care for any other nut/seed butter on them other than sunbutter.
i always have to peel my peaches, and prefer bread to be toasted. and when it comes to yogurt messes or oats, they may not be stirred/mixed up. always eaten as presented!

I love that you eat your oats as presented! I feel like I mix and gobble because I usually take too much time to make them haha. TOTALLY agree with you about bread being toasted. It’s magicial :)

That’s funny about the sunflower seed butter. I tend to like adding it to my cold cereal, but I prefer cashew butter when I’m eating yogurt and cereal. As for hot oats, I stick to sunflower seed butter too.

I’m also not into overnight oats. I’d rather mix everything that morning, and eat it fresh.

We have a lot in common! I love big salads and usually top it with hummus…gotta spread it around (much like my banana in a bowl of oatmeal or avocado with a bowl of black beans!) and I have to have something crackery/chip-like to eat with my salad. I love baked blue corn tortilla chips or toasted pita pockets. And I also eat an apple & a banana everyday. Banana usually in the AM and apple for an afternoon snack. :)

  6. I eat a banana everyday as well. Sometimes two! ;)

Hmm some other quirks are that I prefer my apples cut up. And I can’t just eat yogurt by itself. I need to add some fruit or granola for texture!

    1. Nora says:

Ah Chlsea I’m the same way with yogurt. I always have to add either nuts, granola or cereal. I need some crunch!

I have some pretty weird food quirks as well. For example, if I am having fruit or a salad with my meal, I ALWAYS eat that first. Then I eat the “main part”, then the side dishes. LOL I always eat things in order. Haha.

I have to have an apple and a banana everyday too ;)

Ha! I love reading about food quirks!
I eat a banana every day too!
and I completely agree, if you’re having a salad for a meal, you need some sort of carb!
I don’t like to stir the nut butter into my oats. I’d rather sit in a corner and I can sort of dip my spoon into it so each bite has a bit of it!
