I Think Therefore I Run

Each morning my alarm sounds and the great debate begins.

A. What should I do now?

B. What do I want for breakfast?

The answer to these questions may be obvious for some, however; after four years of Model United Nations in high school, I challenge everything. Correlations are added and amendments are made before passing the final resolution (MUN language..obviously I was cool in high school.).

The answer to part A is usually: “Get out of the cozy bed, grab some reading materials and make breakfast.” or “SNOOZE.” (More likely the former than the latter.) In today’s debate a friendly amendment was passed and “Go for a run.” became an option. I went back and forth for a solid five minutes. Comfy bed or run? Run later or have free time in the afternoon? Oh free time, I miss free time. Running wins.

It was a nice change to run in the morning. The air was crisp and the solitude was refreshing. I didn’t have to jog in place at a single traffic light or run through crowds of people enjoying their “happy hour” cocktails at street side cafes. (I’m always nervous that I am going to trip and face plant into their drinks and appetizers…scary thought.) Plus, it woke me up and gave me TONS of energy for the day :) .

The entire time I was running I debated part B of my morning ritual: What’s for breakfast? This question is the most challenging to solve because the options are endless. Oatmeal? Pancakes? Smoothie? Granola and yogurt? Cold Cereal? Eggs? And after I finally reach a conclusion for the main element of my meal, that debate extends to what toppings I want to add.

Nut Butter Babies.

The Jam Family.

(I’m going to need a mini van for my toppings collection soon!)

This morning I went with a bowl of “overnight oats”. Which were really 20 minute oats, because I couldn’t make a decision last night and made them this morning.

In my bowl: 1/2 cup raw oatmeal, 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk, 1/4 cup Kefir, cinnamon, 1/2 TBS chia seeds. Topped with 1 banana, Crofter’s Europe Superfruit Spread, sunflower seed butter, honey and pumpkin seeds.

I’m hoping to run some errands, catch up on reading and FINALLY clean my apartment this evening. The garbage can is getting out of control.

Scholarly,

Nora

  1. I’m too boring. I don’t think much of it. It’s usually eggs, or if I’m super cold, warm oatmeal. That’s it! Every single stinkin day!

Sad Truth: I was browsing the Naturally Nutty website last night debating the vanilla cinnamon sunflower butter. It will most certainly be a purchase I make soon!

For breakfast, I usually just go with what I feel like and generally rotate between oats, smoothies and eggs!

  7. I’m good on making breakfast, but I can never decide what I want for dinner. Boo.

Hey Ashley! I had to laugh when I read your comment. I always can make decisions on breakfast (even if they take a while) but I feel like dinner is such an effort. I went through that tonight actually. P.S I’ve been enjoying your blog :)

  8. Morning runs are the best. It makes me feel so invigorated and I love being out in the early morning sun.

My breakfast choice depends on the weather, what fruit I have available, and whether or not I feel like yogurt. It’s usually a pretty simple selection process!

Hey Chelsea, I completely agree with you! It’s almost freeing to go out in the morning.

Wow you have quite the PB&J collection! Which are your favorites? I don’t think I knew that Crofter’s had so many varieties. I love early morning exercise! But we don’t have crisp refreshing air here anymore. I miss it!
