I’ve never actually been hit by a bus, however; I woke up this morning feeling like I had. I could not fall asleep last night until sometime between 2:30 and 3am. I am estimating this time frame because I recall seeing the clock at 2:15am and then woke up sprawled out on my futon at 3:15am when I made my way to bed. These are dreadful hours when you have to wake up at 5:30am. Not good.
Needless to say, it was a two cup morning. One cup full of coffee, and the other for overnight oats. I have no real reason for making my oats in a cup other than I really, REALLY wanted to use my new teaspoon! My obsession for dishes also extends to utensils and let me tell you this was FUN to eat with! Is it sad I’m looking forward to making granola topped smoothies so I can use this spoon to “dig” for sunken granola? I lead an exciting life.
In my glass overnight: 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1/2 TBS chia seeds, 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk, 1/4 Kefir and cinnamon. Topped in the morning with: 1 large banana, raw honey, sunflower seed butter and Crofter’s South America Super Fruit Spread (Maqui and Passion Fruit. I forgot how much I liked this spread!).
I think I finally found my ideal overnight combination! This breakfast was delicious, filling and helped me wake up!
My lunchbox is packed with a hummus/veggie wrap, a large carrot and an Empire apple.
I always need a veggie fix at lunch time
.
Hopefully these foods will keep me focused and counteract my lack of sleep!
Working Away,
Nora
Do you have any tips/tricks to help you fall asleep?

I need to get some exercise during the day to sleep better, and I fall asleep the quickest when I’ve gone for a run.
If I’m on the computer or watch TV right before I get in bed, it’s harder to fall asleep. I’m better off doing some reading first.
The only thing that helps me sleep is to walk a lot during the day.
Lately I go for a 2-3 hour powerwalk every day and I sleep like a baby. Also I try not to eat late at night
Hey Effie!! It’s so funny that you say that because I’m the exact same way! I think that might have been the cause.
oh i had one of those mornings…..little sweet lulu who i am watching kept me up! ughh…..usually i read and take melatonin.
Oh, I’m sorry to hear about your night. I’ve had many like that, so I know how it sucks. It looks like you had an energizing breakfast, so cheers to a good day and a better night’s sleep tonight!
Breakfast looks really good! And it’s fun to eat out of a tall cup.
To fall asleep when I have trouble, I count backwards slowly from a large number, like 426. I try to tune everything out running through my head and focus on the numbers. I have also heard of counting backwards by 3′s, like 100, 97, 94, 91, etc. But I think that would require more math!
i get so excited eating with new little spoons… and especially long skinny ones to eat delicious goodness in a glass like you did!
is that jam ontop? OH WOW!!!! <3
I love your two cup breakfast lol and no lie that JUST happened to me yesterday! It was terrible, I hate having to be at work by 6am – it’s an ungodly time of day.
My best sleeping tip is kind of weird, but I acutally try to focus on the sounds around me. My boyfriend watching tv, my father talking in the kitchen. Just small sounds and eventually I fall asleep to them. Try it out!
mmm such a colorful lunch!! i try to make sure i’m IN bed early enough to relax, or else i’m running around doing stuff that i can do on another day. reading helps! but don’t do anything like crosswords or sudoku bc that just stimulates your mind! well idk, i have heard this works for some people. not me, i end up dreaming about numbers and that’s just weird.
Congrats on making the perfect overnight combo! I love when things finally fall in place.
I’m not the one to go to for any sleep advice. Haha. I am glad you asked the question, so I can learn from the comments!
I hate nights like that!
Some things that work for me:
Melatonin
Hot bath before bed
Chamomile tea
Ugh – I hate nights like that! Lately they haven’t been very frequent, but when they happen I start freaking out that I’ll never fall asleep and get enough rest to wake up on time – which of course just keeps me up MORE. Sometimes I’ll go online for a couple minutes and realize my eyes really are tired, and if it’s too quiet I’ll turn the TV on really quiet (which I think for some people, actually keeps them awake longer. mreh…)
Anyways – the overnight oats does look like a perfect combo…and I had to laugh, because once again – we share the same love: the long teaspoon. I have one whenever I have oats, even if I’m eating them out of a normal sized bowl, haha.
Oh goodness…I hate nights like that, when I’m tossing and turning all night long! I’ve found that taking a bath before going to bed sometimes helps, or telling yourself that you don’t *need* to sleep and reading (preferrably a boring book) for a while. It usually does the trick, but then there are still those nights when nothing seems to work.
Hope you sleep better tonight!!!
